1. Who we are

Rent Siliguri is a hyperlocal housing discovery platform for Siliguri, operated by KodePundit, a sole proprietorship (“Rent Siliguri”, “we”, “us”, “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information when you use our website, mobile web app and related services (together, the “Platform”).

By using the Platform you agree to this Policy. Where the law requires it, we ask for your explicit consent before collecting or processing your personal information, and you can withdraw that consent at any time (see “Your rights and choices”).

2. What this Policy covers

This Policy covers renters, property owners, brokers, and visitors. It does not cover third-party websites or services we link to — their privacy practices are their own.

3. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service (“data minimisation”):

• Account information — your name, mobile number, and (optionally) email. Your mobile number is verified with a one-time code. Email is optional.
• Profile information — role (renter, owner, broker), preferred contact method and timing, preferred localities, budget and similar preferences you choose to provide.
• Listing information — for owners and brokers, the property details, photos and contact preferences you submit.
• Inquiry and activity information — when you contact an owner, save a listing, schedule a visit, request a phone number, or report a listing.
• Usage information — privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics about how the Platform is used. Our analytics do not carry your name, phone or email.

We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data beyond what is described above, and we do not require government identity documents from renters to browse or inquire.

4. Consent and how we use your information

We use your information only to:

• create and secure your account and verify your mobile number;
• show relevant rental listings and connect renters with owners/brokers;
• process inquiries, visit requests and consent-gated contact between the parties;
• maintain listing trust and safety, including reviewing reports of inaccurate or fake listings;
• respond to your support, legal or grievance requests;
• understand and improve the Platform through aggregate analytics;
• comply with legal obligations and prevent fraud or abuse.

We ask for explicit consent — for example through consent checkboxes at account creation, listing submission and when you contact an owner — before collecting or acting on personal information for these purposes.

5. Owner privacy and mediated contact

We take owner privacy seriously. We never publish an owner’s internal notes, scout remarks, internal trust scores, future-vacancy records or other private operational data. An owner’s phone number is published or released only with the owner’s consent, and contact happens according to the owner’s preferred method and timing. Where an owner requires it, the property’s exact location may be shown only as an approximate area on the map to protect their privacy.

6. Photos, video and location

Property photos and videos are published only where the owner has consented to their use. To protect owner privacy, some listings display an approximate location rather than the precise address until contact is established.

7. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

• Between renters and owners/brokers to the limited extent needed to enable a rental inquiry, and only with the relevant consent.
• With service providers who process data on our behalf under contract — for example our database and authentication host, SMS provider (for verification codes), payment provider (for paid plans), and hosting/CDN. They may access data only to perform their services.
• For legal reasons — to comply with law, enforce our terms, prevent fraud, or protect the rights and safety of users and the public.

8. Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes above, or as required for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, security or dispute-resolution reasons. When information is no longer required, we delete it or irreversibly anonymise it.

9. Your rights and choices

You can:

• Access and correct your account and profile information from your profile settings;
• Withdraw consent or object to certain processing;
• Request deletion of your data — signed-in users can raise a request from Profile → “Request account and data deletion”. Each request is reviewed rather than processed instantly. We will delete or anonymise personal data that is no longer required and retain only what the law obliges us to keep. You can also email us at legal@rentsiliguri.com.

10. Data security

Access to data is protected by authentication and row-level security so that users can generally reach only their own records. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information.

11. Children

The Platform is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

12. Future services

As Rent Siliguri adds paid plans and additional services, this Policy will be extended with service-specific sections. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where required, seek fresh consent.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a revised “Last updated” date.
